Volunteer Opportunities

Opportunities occasionally arise for volunteers to serve in various capacities at BYU Women's Conference.

Music Submissions

The BYU Women’s Conference Committee invites you to share your talents and testimony through music! We are seeking original musical compositions or arrangements related to the 2025 BYU Women’s Conference theme "Behold my Spirit is upon you... and thou shalt abide in me, and I in you; therefore walk with me.” (Moses 6:34). The submission process will close on February 2, 2025.

For each submission, you will need to include the following:

  • Name of submitter
  • Contact information of submitter (composer, lyricist, arranger, etc.): email, phone, address
  • Name and contact information of any collaborator(s) (composer, lyricist, etc.)
  • If an arrangement, list the original creators (original composer, lyricist, etc.)
  • Submission category: choral arrangement, solos/duets/quartets, instrumental
  • Submission language
  • Submission title
  • Tell us about your submission. What inspired it?
  • Sign a digital release form
  • Submit music mp3/mp4 (up to 10 MB or link to media) and sheet music (PDF)

Submit Music

A committee will review all submissions and choose several to be included in our 2025 BYU Women's Conference program. If your submission is selected, you will be notified by the end of March 2025.

Who is eligible to submit music?

Submissions are open to anyone ages 18 and older.

What genre/type of music can I submit?

We are looking for original musical compositions or arrangements (with permission of original creators—see below) related to the 2025 BYU Women’s Conference theme. This can include instrumental as well as vocal choral, solo, duet, or quartet.

Is there a minimum/maximum time length for submitted music?

Compositions should generally be three to seven minutes in length.

What is the submission deadline?

Submissions will be accepted until midnight on February 2, 2025.

Can I submit more than one work?

No, only one submission per person, please.

Do you accept submissions in languages other than English?

Not this year.

Can I collaborate with one or more people on a submission?

Yes. For collaborations, only one person should submit the piece. When submitting, you will be asked for contact information for each collaborator.

Does my submission need to include accompaniment?

Yes, except for a cappella arrangements. Piano or organ accompaniments are preferable for choral arrangements and arrangements for solo/duet/quartet.

What am I required to submit?

We require sheet music and a basic recording of the work for all submissions.

Can I mail a CD or other recording of my song submission?

No, please submit a link to a recording of your song with your submission.

Whom should I contact if I am having problems submitting?

Please email byuwcmusic@byu.edu for technical support.

Do I need to get permission to create an arrangement of an existing piece of music?

Yes, unless the work is in the public domain. If your submission is an arrangement of a copyright protected work, you will need to obtain permission from the copyright holder to arrange the work and publish the arrangement.

How can I get permission to create an arrangement of someone else’s work?

Permission can be requested through the copyright holder. For hymns and songs owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, please request permission at permissions ChurchofJesusChrist.org.

When do I need to request permission to create an arrangement?

Permission should be given before you submit or share your music. Keep in mind, obtaining permission takes time, so we recommend that you reach out as soon as possible. If you are concerned about receiving permission before the submission deadline, please email byuwcmusic@byu.edu.

Why do I need to sign a licensing agreement if my submission is selected?

The BYU Women’s Conference License Agreement grants BYU permission to make use of your work. If your submission is your original work, you still own your work when you sign the agreement.

Can I submit a song that has been released on an album or published elsewhere previously?

Yes, as long as you hold the rights and copyright, and granting BYU a license will not be in conflict with any licensing agreement you have previously entered into.

Who will review my music?

Submissions are reviewed anonymously by members of our music subcommittee.

When and how will I find out if my submission was selected?

If your submission is selected, you will be notified by email by the end of March.

What happens to the submitted music?

Selected music may be performed during the 2025 BYU Women’s Conference and/or published on the BYU Women’s Conference website, social media accounts, etc.

Will my music be performed?

Selected music may be performed as part of our 2025 BYU Women’s Conference.

Can I perform my own piece?

As a general rule, we would ask an experienced, professional vocalist(s) or instrumentalist(s) to perform the piece. The Marriott Center is a large venue, and performers need extensive experience to perform there.

Where can I review the licensing agreement for the submission?

You can review a sample licensing agreement; however, the actual agreement will be done electronically at the time you submit your music. Do not submit this sample.

I have additional questions.

Please email byuwcmusic@byu.edu.

Infants and Children

For the safety of all guests, we are not able to accommodate infants or children, including babes in arms, in any conference rooms, including in the Marriott Center. This policy helps BYU comply with building safety regulations and fire codes related to maximum room occupancy and minimum widths available for accessible exit routes. These routes must be free from all obstructions, impediments, and blockage, including baby equipment such as baby carriers and strollers.

Having a minimum age (16) for attendance reflects policies already in place for other large, formal gatherings such as general conference for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; the policy is also similar to those of fine art performances and other conferences and events where participants pay to attend, including BYU Education Week. Additionally, staying at BYU residence halls during BYU Women’s Conference is limited to participants ages 16 and older.

Other campus spaces are available for family members and friends who take turns watching a child and going to sessions. These spaces include BYU campus dining and lounging areas, as well as a family playroom on the main floor of the library. Mother’s rooms and changing stations are also available in buildings across campus.

If you are unable to come to campus, we hope that you will take advantage of our new CE media online library. You can also watch past BYU Women’s Conference broadcasts on BYUtv and read the online transcripts.
